VISION

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way, in partnership with the families and communities we serve, is an innovative leader in providing individuals with disabilities opportunities for a meaningful life through personal development and participation in the community.

MISSION

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization serving individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. We create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. We inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.

Description:
Description of Agency’s Primary Programs:
Birth to Three provides inclusive early intervention services to children with special needs.
Family Support provides families individualized supports at the times that they need them in order to maintain their child in their home and active in their family life. Includes respite services.
Residential Services provides support in activities of daily living, meal planning and preparation, assistance in personal care, up to 24-hour supervision, recreation, and counseling.
Employment Training is provided daily through the following options: Competitive Job Placements, Supported Enclave and Work Crews, Workshop, School Transition, Computer Training.
Community Support Programs offer an alternative to employment for people who need or prefer less than a full-time job, but who require training in accessing their community.
Senior Services offers a variety of social and recreation activities in integrated community settings for adults with developmental disabilities who are over 55 years of age.
Recreation Programs, Transportation and Counseling are also provided.

History:
STAR Inc. was established in 1952 as a non-profit membership organization to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Starting with outreach and children's programs, today STAR serves over 500 individuals, of ages throughout mid Fairfield County.
