Amnesty International aims to protect human rights around the world and works towards the release of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience through letter-writing campaigns and public events. Meetings are held at 7:30PM on the second Thursday of each month at the Stamford branch of UCONN, on Broad Street in room 311.
Description:
Amnesty International works on a wide range of issues from children's rights, women's rights and refugee rights to the prevention of torture and execution around the world. Individuals work on the areas of their concern and bring their knowledge and expertise to group meetings. Volunteers learn about world politics and help to make the world a better place.
History:
Group #13 is one of the oldest Amnesty International chapters in the United States. Founded in 1971 this chapter has served the communtity for over 30 years, helping to educate and improve our world. Group #13 is made up solely of volunteers.
