To provide compassionate, high quality health care to individuals who are frail and elderly or chronically ill, including those of limited financial resources.

Description:
Smith House Health care Center is a 128 bed skilled nursing facility situated on 13 beautiful wooded acres in northern Stamford. Our Therapeutic Recreation department offers a variety of therapeutic, spiritual, and diversional programs to our residents. A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available. The city bus conveniently stops at our front door.

History:
Smith House Health Care Center opened in 1963.It was the dream of several caring and concerned citizens. George Laturney and Harry Smith, Stamford officials, recognized the need for a municipally owned nursing home. The original facility named for Harry Smith had just 68 beds. In 1978 it was enlarged to its current 128 bed capacity. Smith House celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1993 and added several rooms including a chapel, music room, library and garden room. In recent years Smith House also constructed a 1 mile paved walking/wheeling trail which is open to the community as well as utilized by the residents.
