Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on July 17, 2009 |
The Young Parents Program is seeking female volunteers to provide support and companionship to young mothers in Stamford who have just returned from the hospital with their newborn. Volunteers will be paired with a young mother and would visit her at home once a week for an hour. The Young Parents Program supports pregnant teens as they transition into their roles as young mothers. In addition to providing prenatal/parenting education and support, YPP clinicians help young parents further their educational and vocation goals. Since this program coincides with the Stamford school calendar, which ended in mid-June and will resume in September, we are no longer placing volunteers. Instead, we encourage all interested volunteers to contact us as we begin to compile a list of potential volunteers for the 2009-2010 school year.
Volunteers should feel comfortable being around newborns and going into someone's home. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus. All volunteers are required to come in for an interview and complete screening paperwork. Volunteers must be female and 21 years of age or older. Please note that volunteer trainings/information sessions will now be held on a quarterly basis and all volunteers will be required to attend monthly check in meetings with staff at our Stamford location.
