Darien Book Aid Plan is seeking volunteers who are interested in helping with our mission to build a foundation of peace, understanding, and friendship through the free distribution of books. If you love books and would like to spread your love of books and reading worldwide, you may wish to join us as a volunteer. Some jobs our volunteers do are: sorting and shelving books, choosing books to fulfill requests, packing books, preparing packed books for shipment. It is helpful if you are familiar with a broad range of books and have an idea of what kinds of books work well for particular audiences. We are looking for more volunteers who work during the day, but are available at night to help us with our mission. Meet and work with other wonderful people who come together on Wednesday nights to pack some books and have some fun. If you want to work somewhat earlier than our posted workshop hours for Wednesdays, get in contact with us. We'll see what we can work out. Our Darien workshop hours are: 2-4pm Tuesdays, 9:30am - 12 noon Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 6-8pm Wednesdays. Also, Saturday Hours 10am - 12noon. There is no minimum time commitment. One - two hours is usually enough to fulfill one request. In one hour, many books can be sorted and shelved. No special skills are required. We would be thrilled with volunteers who can help out once a week or once a month! If interested, please contact Heather Ferullo @ hlzech@sbcglobal.net or call 203-655-2227. You may also stop by the workshop during our working hours. Check out our website for more information on our organization. http://dba.darien.org/

Darien Boook Aid Plan sends books by request to peace corp members, schools, and other community organizations around the world. There are children and adults all over the world for whom books are not available. Being a part of improving literacy for those who may not otherwise have a chance is extremely rewarding. Everyone who volunteers at the Book Aid is very dedicated and fun to be around. posted by hlzech on July 29, 2003 |
