The pre-med program is an opportunity to work side by side with professionals and to witness medicine practiced as it truly is. Highly motivated students who demonstrate strong initiative and a deep sense of curiosity will benefit most from their assignments. This will help you confirm your desire to enter the field or not. To quote a past participant: "You really get to learn once you're in the environment where you hope you will be one day...Just to get more of a connection to this profession, you pick up on every little thing..." Students will be assigned tasks and in return be rewarded with observational opportunities and meetings with health care professionals. Students in the past have also had opportunities to assist with research. The Premed program is available to serious and highly motivated students entering their junior or senior year of college and to those applying to medical school. An interview is required along with proof of a recent test for tuberculosis (within the past year)or it will be provided for you, and a two day orientation to the hospital. A letter of reference from a professor would be helpful. A commitment of no less than three mornings a week between June and August are required. This opportunity is sponsored by: Stamford Hospital
