Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on July 17, 2009 |
Volunteer for a one-on-one chat with a senior once a week. Whether you listen to a tale from a someones past or share a story from your present or just check in and see how they are doing and what is new with them. You will have the opportunity to enhance their day and make a new friend. Your call will make such a difference to help a senior feel involved and engaged in the community. Volunteers should enjoy being on the phone and have a pleasant demeanor. Calls can be made from the volunteer's home or office, but they are required to come in for a personal interview, training and paperwork before starting with us. All volunteers also participate in training classes throughout the year. These trainings help the volunteer to develop good communication and active listening skills, a better understanding of the concerns of older adults and how to help callers access information about community resources. Volunteers must be at least sixteen years old and commit to making calls one time per week. This opportunity is sponsored by: Family Centers
