Sunnyside Neighborhood Association

Sunnyside Neighborhood Association was founded in late 1988 to improve the quality of life for our community, by removing the graffiti and by having cleanups to remove litter. We also wanted to improve the communication between our young people and our seniors.

Description:
The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association provides many opportunities for the community to become involved with their neighbors. We are a neighborhood watch community where we participate in National Night Out and have a potluck once a year in order for the neighbors to come out and meet each other and their police and fire departments.
We paint over graffiti to beautify the neighborhood. We have neighborhood cleanups to remove litter and debris.
We have a Community Justice Board Program in our neighborhood through the Pima County Attorneys Office.
We have adopted a park and a street with the Tucson Clean & Beautiful Program to remove litter and beautify our neighborhood.
The Neighborhood has a community garden called the Peace Garden where members can participate with planting and working with the youth in the neighborhood to teach them about good land stewardship and about themselves.
We have a bike trailer where we teach the youth how to repair their own bikes.
We have a banquet once a year for the youth called the All American Student Awards. At the banquet we honor two youth from each school in the Sunnyside School District at the graduating level. We want the youth to know that the community they live in cares about them and their education and to instill in them pride and a goal to seek higher education. We also give the seniors an education encouragement award of $400.00. We have honored over 600 students the past 15 years.
