New Beginnings For Women & Children
New Beginnings For Women & Children is a nonprofit, non-sectarian program providing housing, counseling and support services to homeless women and their children. Our goal is to provide the skills and opportunity necessary for these families to become financially self-sufficient.
Description:
At New Beginnings for Women & Children, from the first moment a homeless mother and her children contact our agency for services, they become part of a supportive community committed to helping them succeed. Volunteers are a vital part of this process. New Beginnings for Women & Children (NBWC) has been serving the Tucson community since 1987. Our mission is to help homeless women with children achieve financial self-sufficiency by providing the opportunities and skills necessary for them to become independent. We do this with a continuum of services ranging from Emergency Shelter to Transitional Housing to Aftercare. Our unique Children’s Program is in place at each phase. Last year, we served over 1,400 women and children. The full range of our services includes life skills development, job and career development, advocacy and referral, computer training, tutoring, and other supportive services. Our Emergency Shelter is a 90-day program that provides the first step toward a permanent solution to end homelessness for mothers and children who are living in crisis. All families receive food, clothing, personal care and household items. The Shelter offers case management services, therapeutic groups, and the Children’s Program. The mothers are assisted by the case managers in obtaining employment and/or education. The Shelter is not a day care, but a place that provides a safe space for a mother with children and the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to become self-sufficient. In keeping with our mission, we place great emphasis on providing the children in our program with the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential. We are passionate about our programs, because we know that what we do works. New Beginnings helps people make lasting changes in their lives. And it touches the next generation in powerful ways. But--we cannot continue at the same level of service without help from people like you who care about the quality of life in Tucson and who are willing to volunteer their time. There are many volunteer opportunities at New Beginnings for Women & Children in which you can become involved. You too can be a part of our mission as a volunteer, committed to seeing these women and their children succeed through reaching true independence and self-sufficency.
