The Development Center for Appropriate Technology works to enhance the health of the planet and our communities by promoting a shift to sustainable construction and development through leadership, strategic relationships, and education. We envision a world where communities thrive and are built in harmony with nature, because people understand the consequences of their choices and make decisions for their own and the Earth's benefit.
Description:
DCAT primary program work is at a national level, dealing with how building regulations can promote or hinder sustainable building practices. We provide education and training to code officials, architects, designers, and other building practitioners on why sustainability issues are important and provide technical information about natural and sustainable building materials. On a local basis, we collaborate with other organizations promoting sustainability issues and help support natural building projects with technical and organizational issues. Our regular activities include producing educational materials such as the website and videos, writing articles on green building for national magazines, organizing technical trainings for code officials, and collaborating with green building practitioners on projects such as surveys.
