The Foundation's mission is to invest in the future of Arizona's children and youth with vision and hearing loss, by raising and managing private funds to bridge the ever-widening gap between public education funding and access to the quality educational experience essential to prepare Arizona students, primarily but not exclusively at the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and Blind (ASDB), to be self-sufficient and contributing members of society.

Description:
The Foundation, originally named ASDB Foundation, Inc., was incorporated in January 2002 and received its 501(c)(3) designation in May 2002. In February 2003, the name was changed to Arizona Blind and Deaf Children, Inc. to more clearly convey the population served. The Foundation is a private entity that is completely separate and independent from ASDB. The Foundation and the school communicate and work together to identify critical areas of need for the students. They also work cooperatively to develop acceptable and workable programs. ASDB implements these programs, while the Foundation oversees and funds them. The Foundation serves children attending ASDB with disabilities ranging from vision loss, hearing loss, multi-handicapped and multi-handicapped with sensory impairment. In other words, the population covers a wide range of critical needs, from students that are "only" vision or hearing impaired to students who are completely blind or profoundly deaf or both, as well as physically and/or mentally challenged. Currently, ASDB serves 2,070 students statewide, ranging in age from birth to 22 years, at two campuses and five regional cooperatives. The Tucson campus has 292 students who ar vision or hearing impaired and Phoenix Day School for the Deaf has approximately 300 students. The remaining 1,477 students receive specialized services from ASDB teachers in their local public school.
