Alliance Française of Tucson

The Alliance Française of Tucson seeks to foster knowledge and appreciation of France and French-speaking countries, to encourage the study of the French language, and to promote friendship and understanding between Americans and all speakers of French.

Description:
The Alliance Française of Tucson is an all-volunteer non-profit organization incorporated in Arizona and affiliated with the Federation of Alliances Françaises (USA). It is part of an educational and cultural network present in over 130 countries, founded in 1883 by personalities such as Jules Verne and Louis Pasteur.

AF Tucson offers southern Arizona:

• monthly public programs in French or in English during the school year and some in summer, most free and open to the public;
• volunteer-led interest groups for members such as pétanque, book groups in French and English, Cinéphiles, conversation groups;
• seasonal celebrations like le 14 juillet, Noël, la Fête des Rois;
• news about area francophone and francophile events through web site, bimonthly newsletter, and email list;
• student awards and scholarships at high school and university levels;
• participation in the Southern Arizona Language Fair held at the University of Arizona, next on April 10, 2010.
  
  

Volunteers are needed to help set up a program of French classes, as done by half of Alliances in US. More volunteers are needed to present programs; lead conversation groups, book and film discussions; and help with social events celebrating French and francophone holidays.
