Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Tucson (and the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona) is the 13th site in the country to host Experience Corps. Offering new adventures in service for Americans over age 55, Experience Corps solves serious social problems by improving literacy. Experience Corps is a tutoring/mentoring program. Just a few hours each week in a neighborhood school can change a young person's life - and yours. For those who commit to 12 -15 hours per week(or 450 hours per school year) a small stipend of $107.92 bi-weekly is paid to help cover expenses. In the 2008/09 school year there are limited openings for tutors serving only 8-10 hours/week and receiving a correspondingly decreased stipend. Openings are available in four Flowing Wells Elementary schools and two TUSD schools, Wheeler & Johnson Elementary.
Requirements include a 12 hour tutor training, orientation, and fingerprinting. Pre-service, as well as in-service, training is provided to all Experience Corps members at no charge. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOLS FOR INFORMATION; CONTACT INFORMATION BELOW.
