Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Accompany refugees to local farmer's markets or fairs. For times, days, and locations of Tucson's many Markets please see the following website:

Tucson has become the new home for many refugees from Africa, Asia and beyond. The refugees need to learn how to sell their harvested fruits, vegetables, and craft products. Local nutritious food is available for them at these locations-- they can even use food stamps.

Take a couple hours and visit one of Tucson's farmer's markets with some of the refugees. Call Tara at 722-9285 if you are interested or have further questions. The refugees need to interact with Americans and the Tucson community. They need friends and the market could be a fun learning experience.

The volunteers will need to apply to be volunteers (10 min. application), provide references, and sign a confidentiality agreement that protects the refugees. An introduction video or powerpoint presentation (20 min.) is provided to help volunteers understand the many challenges facing refugees.
