Sonoran Desert Weedwackers

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on March 29, 2009

We remove invasive grasses that are endangering the health of the Sonoran Desert. These grasses promote fire around plants that are not fire-adapted and also are robbing the native plants of what little water is available to them. Since 2000, we have removed an estimated 120 tons of invasive grasses. There is lots more to remove.

We need people who can walk the trails, dig out the plants with digging bars and carry out trash bags of plants. We train on the job!! We provide snacks after the hard work. We work for about 2-3 hours every third Saturday of the month.
