Children's Memorial Park |
| Description : |
|
Children's Memorial Park is a fitting tribute to the children who have died in our community. This Pima County Park, near River and Oracle at 4851 N. 15th Place, was formerly known as Edgewater Park. After being destroyed by the 1983 flood, it was rebuilt and rededicated as Children's Memorial Park on November 14, 1987. The Children's Memorial Plaza, set off from the more active areas of the park, provides an opportunity for quiet reflection to remember the children who have died. The memorial consists of granite walls on which the names of the children are engraved and includes a sculpture called "Omni", which was created in 1978 by 700 boys and girls at a summer camp. The area also includes a sculpture, "The Magic Carpet", which was donated by the Thomason Family in 2002. The park also contains a playground with new equipment donated by a grant from the Wolslager Foundation in 2003; along with a bike path, exercise trail, sports court, multiuse field, picnic areas, and group ramadas. |
