Finally I found an agency that didn't keep me waiting for weeks!
 |
The Director responded immediately to my emailed inquiry about volunteering at T.H.E. Project and she met with me within two days. We began working together that day on some projects that use my professional skills. A week later the two of us went to a facility for an orientation and a week later I was teaching a life skills class to juveniles.
I don't know about you, but when I decide to volunteer somewhere, I don't like to be kept waiting while the agency gets itself organized. Gay Evans is highly organized, respects my time, and runs a tight ship. She's my kind of "boss"! posted by rvgrovers on July 27, 2007 |

Deeply Satisfying

When I first began giving workshops through The Health Education Project to both women in prison and in domestic abuse shelters, I had no idea that the one who would be learning the most would be me! Working with these two groups has given me a chance to explore not only health issues but my own personal growth. I also know that what I do really does make a difference, maybe even in the long-term happiness and health of my workshop participants. I feel like the man on the beach throwing starfish back into the sea. I may not make a huge difference but a lasting difference in any one woman's struggle for her attainment of personal health and welfare is certainly enough for me! posted by mbhaas on June 11, 2003 |

An excellent opportunity and I got to learn the agencies in the community.

I got much better acquainted with the services available to vulnerable persons in Tucson. I met interesting people that have been very helpful to me in my position. I have studied some topic every month from the extensive curriculum in preparation to teach that month. posted by onedime on April 22, 2003 |
