The Medical Reserve Corps of Southern Arizona (MRCSA) is part of the national voluntary effort to develop non-governmental resources in response to a variety of community needs, preeminent among these being prepared for terrorist activity and other emergency and disaster response.

MRCSA provides support to the Pima County Health Department in addressing regular public health issues as well as in time of emergency. Retired health professionals possess the talents, abilities and skills to provide a valuable resource for filling these needs. In addition, medical professional in active practice, or semi retired health professionals are encouraged to participate in this voluntary activity. MRCSA is organized into Task Forces, including Physician, Nursing, Pharmacy, Mental Health, Allied Health, and Administrative.

Retired health professionals may include physicians, osteopaths, nurses, pharmacists, a variety of "ancillary health personnel", laboratory workers, administrative personnel and others who have functioned previously in the health care community. These individuals will vary in their abilities and skills, each of which will be assessed, and may also vary in their ability to fulfill the functions required. As a group, however, they will provide a wide variety of skills which should be sufficient to accomplish major purposes of the Medical Reserve Corps of Southern Arizona.

Interested non-medical volunteers fill support and logistics roles.

MRCSA provides on-going Task Force training, including required Incident Command System and National Incident Management System training.
