Volunteer Bell Ringer for the Red Kettle Campaign

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 29, 2009

In 1891, Captain Joseph McFee placed a solitary pot on the dock at the Oakland Ferry Landing hoping to raise enough money to provide a Christmas dinner for the poor. By 1897, McFee's idea had become a nationwide effort. Since then, The Salvation Army's Red Kettle has become an integral part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated annually.

Beginning November 17, volunteers will ring bells Monday - Friday, from 10 am to 8 pm at nearly 50 locations around Knoxville. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least a two-hour time slot. Or recruit your friends, family, church or business and adopt a kettle location for a day, a week, or even more.

Pick a day and time that you're available, let us know what area of town would be most convenient for you and we'll get you on the schedule. Simply show up at the scheduled time and everything will be waiting for you. Bring your friends and family and be ready to ring the bell, smile, say Merry Christmas and thank donors.
