We have distributed around 1500 comfort scarves since we started in Oct, 2008, 1100 of which we delivered in 2009. We knit and crochet "comfort" scarves and distribute them to shelters for abused women; we provide a community service unit to ESL/literacy classes for adults by teaching crochet, making scarves, and then distributing the scarves to local shelters; we recruit seniors to teach yarn arts to children and teens who then learn to make scarves to donate to abused women. We intended the scarves to comfort the women who received them - happily the scarves do theat but much more. They empower those who make them and life the spirits of those who receive them. |
