Heritage Farmstead Museum
The Mission of the Heritage Farmstead Museum is to collect, preserve, and interpret late 19th and early 20th century Blackland Prairie history while making appropriate use of the authentically restored Farrell-Wilson Farmstead, a designated historic site.
Description:
The Heritage Farmstead is a non-profit National Historic Museum that offers educational tours to the general public, out of town visitors and local schoolchildren. The Farmstead relies heavily on its volunteer docents to give these tours. Training, costumes, Docent socials and interesting in-services are provided for our volunteers. The next training session will be held on Tuesday August 14th from 7 to 9pm at the Heritage Farmstead Museum. Please call the museum to register. If you love history and want to have a great time giving back to the community please stop by or give us a call. WE NEED YOU!
History:
The Heritage Farmstead Museum was established in 1986 and has been giving educational tours 7 days each week since its opening. The continuous schedule of tours takes a tremendous amount of manpower so we rely heavily on our volunteers. The historic home contains 14 rooms and 12 outbuildings on 4 acres that are included in the tour. Spending time on the Farmstead is like stepping back in time. The shaded, quiet, calm atmosphere certainly enhances your volunteering opportunity.
