Literacy For Life
Literacy for Life's mission is to help adults become productive members of the community by building literacy skills and self-esteem.
Description:
Literacy for Life (LFL) provides free and confidential one-on-one English tutoring to Collin County adults. LFL serves non-readers, poor readers, and those who have immigrated from other countries struggling to read, write and comprehend the English language. LFL relies upon the community for volunteer tutors who devote their time to helping adult learners develop literacy skills. Interested persons should be adults who have completed high school, have a good command of the English language, attend a Tutor Training Workshop, and provide a six month commitment of two hours instruction a week. A good sense of humor and a healthy dose of patience are invaluable!
History:
Literacy for Life began serving the needs of native English speakers struggling with their reading abilities in 1991. Since then, the program has expanded to work with both native and non-native adult English speakers who are learning to read, write and comprehend the English language.
