History:
The Community Lifeline Center began operating in July, 1989, providing information and referral services for the residents of McKinney. Over the years the agency has reached out to meet the growing needs of the communities in surrounding areas, as well as increasing and diversifying its program base.
Funding is provided by local churches, businesses, service groups, and individuals desiring to assist hurting families in need. Additional funding is sometimes provided by TXU Energy, FEMA, and United Way. The Center offers emergency financial assistance to families in temporary crisis situations. This support includes, but is not limited to: rent, mortgage, utilities and prescription assistance. Referrals are given for dental, medical and food.
After the first year of operation, the service delivery area was expanded beyond McKinney, to include the cities of Altoga, Anna, Blue Ridge, Celina, Copeville, Farmersville, Josephine, Lavon, Lowry Crossing, Melissa, Nevada, New Hope, Princeton, Prosper, Westminster, and Weston; the northern portion of Collin County.
