The mission of The Turning Point is to provide counseling, education, and advocacy to those impacted by sexual assault.
Description:
The Turning Point(Rape Crisis Center of Collin County) provides 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, counseling, and support to victims of sexual assault, their family and friends. Also provides school and community education programs on sexual assault awareness, support groups for victims, and professional training. Volunteers are on call 24 hours to assist victims at five Collin County hospital emergency rooms. Volunteers complete 40-hour training program accredited by Office of the Attorney General in order to provide hotline and hospital emergency room assistance to survivors of sexual assault. Volunteers providing school-based safety education complete 20-hour training program. Additional volunteer opportunities include office work and fundraising. No charge for client services.
History:
The Turning Point (Rape Crisis Center of Collin County)was started in 1982 in McKinney, by a social worker, law enforcement officer, and hospital working together to provide services to survivors of sexual assault. The services have expanded to all of Collin County and beyond, and include school and community safety education.
