Educational Merit Foundation For Student Exchange
Educational Merit Foundation for Student Exchange (EMF), a North-Texas-based, non-profit educational foundation founded in 1991, has, since its beginning, been actively involved in working with international students at the high school level (both individually and in groups) for both short and long term educational programs.
Description:
Founded by a former exchange student, EMF is dedicated to promoting world understanding through international friendship. EMF links foreign exchange students with host families and high schools in the U.S. We believe that the experience of living in a foreign country, learning both its language and culture, is life changing. Through its programs, EMF offers students the chance to become citizens of the world.
Working with our overseas partners, EMF has students coming from France, Germany, South Korea, Georgia and Spain. They are between the ages of 15 and 18 years and are carefully screened in their host countries to ensure that they are able to be successful in an American High School. Our students will arrive with sufficient pocket money to cover personal expenses, and have comprehensive health and accident insurance coverage. EMF students expect to participate as active members of the host family household as well as to share their own country's culture, history, and traditions with their host family, the high school, and community.
EMF Community Coordinators carefully screen prospective Host Families without consideration for race, religion, national origin, or profession; selecting families who are truly interested in sharing a cross-cultural experience. We look for families that are enthusiastic, interested, flexible, stable, have a sense of humor, friendly and warm. Host Families provide room and board to the student without remuneration, and the exchange student is expected to cover all additional expenses. Host Families come in all shapes and sizes can be a married or single adult, with or without children. We have many single-parent host families, as well as "empty-nesters" and people who have never had children.
History:
EMF is a nationally recognized organization, authorized by the United States Department of State to issue form DS-2019 for students to obtain J-1 visas.
