Volunteer Opportunity Details:

You can make a big difference by using your Spanish language skills to help other volunteers communicate with patients who speak only Spanish. Many of our patients have no other access to healthcare and speak only Spanish. There is an urgent need for translators to help us work with patients to achieve the best health care we can provide. Translators help patients with applications, act as interpreter between the nurse or provider and the patient and assist with telephone calls. Volunteers are needed evenings from 5:15 to 8 (Tuesday and Wednesday) and daytime from 9:45 am to 3 (Monday-Friday). Partial shifts are available. CCHC is a free clinic for the uninsured indigent residents of McKinney and surrounding areas. No fee is charged to the patients by this non-profit clinic.

Fluency in Spanish is necessary but medical knowledge is not (but would be great). Orientation is by on-the-job training with an experienced translator. Resource books are available for medical terms. Confidentiality of patient information is required.
