Volunteer Opportunity Details:

We are in need of trained volunteers to make individual patient visits to those hospice patients in their own homes, group homes, assisted living, and long term care facilities.

We are also in need of volunteers to work with Activity Directors in various assisted living facilities, Memory assisted living facilities,and long term care facilities. Volunteer would work directly under the supervision of the Activity Director and indirectly with the Volunteer Coordinator for our agency. This could include individual patient visits for those who do not always participate in group activities or working with groups playing games,doing arts and crafts, or assisting with facility special events or parties. Volunteer who sing or play a musical instrument, or have a special talent to share, are also very welcome. We have two volunteers,one a volunteer chaplain and another is works for Dallas County who sings to our patients. We have another working with a long term care facility who is a hairdresser. One volunteer makes weekly visits to the patient at home so that the caregiver can have some free time. One volunteer is recording brief episodes of family history for a patient who can no longer write.

Our volunteers are required to get a TB screen (which we offer free of charge at our office).
We will need to have a copy on file of the volunteer's drivers license and recent proof of auto liability.
Our volunteers are background checked. (we cannot accept those with felony convictions).
We require 6 hours of training which we provide at our office, or at the volunteer's residence if they are unable to come to our office. We are flexible in setting up the dates and time of training.

From Mckinney, please take 75 Central Expressway South. Take the 635(LBJ)Freeway exit East. Take LBJ east until you reach the Abrams Rd./Forest Lane exit. You will exit and stay in the left hand lane through Abrams Rd. until you reach Forest Lane. Turn Left onto Forest Lane. Stay in the left hand lane. On your left you will see and Wendy's and a Budget Inn Suites. There will be a street, Waterview, imediately between those landmarks and a storage facility.
