Agency Details:
Alzheimer's Association-Greater New Jersey Chapter
To enhance care and support for individuals, their families and caregivers and to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research.
Description:
The Greater New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is the only national voluntary health organization dedicated to research into the causes, cures, treatments and prevention of Alzheimer's disease and to providing education and support services to individuals with Alzheimers and their caregivers. This chapter is one of the largest chapters in the Association's network and carries out the organization's goals on a local level in the fourteen northern, central and southern counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties in New Jersey. Our main office is located in Denville, where all administrative and fiscal functions are centralized. We also have branch offices located in Princeton, Red Bank and Oradell that enable us to better serve the 350,000 individuals and family caregivers affected by Alzheimer's disease who live and work in our service area. The programs and services offered include a toll-free HELPLINE (1.800.883.1180) that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; a Safe Return Program, a Respite Care Reimbursement Program for Caregivers, a Learning Institute of Educational Programs for professionals as well as for the communities we serve, and support groups in all 14 counties we serve.
History:
For over 20 years, and as a chapter of the National organization, we are required to meet rigorous standards that ensure the highest level of service nationwide. We are governed by a local board of directors that establishes policy and maintains fiduciary, strategic and operational oversight. Each year, we are responsible to raise all of our operating funds locally through Chapter fundraising activities. A portion of all the money we raise is sent to the National office to support research.
