Description:
The Salvation Army Corps in Flemington has existed for about 10 years. We are now at a permanent locarion in the former Jewish Synagogue on 40 East Main Street in the boro of Flemington. Captains Frank and Melissa Nataluk just arrived as the new local leaders. They are excited to find what is the most un-addressed needs in the community. Current happeings are Social Services for those in need, Music/Drama classes for children and teens, Women's Ministry, sending children to Camp Tecumseh, Emergency Disaster Services and Sunday Worship Services/Sunday School.
History:
The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 as The Christian Mission by William and Catherine Booth. In 1879 the name "The Salvation Army" was formed along with uniforms for members and a quasi military structure. The Booths were empassioned to minister to the very poor of the East end of London. There became a large following and before long the Army was spread all over Europe and the United States. The Salvation Army is currently residing in over 108 countries. The Officers of the Army are ordained ministers and the Soldiers of the Army are Lay Leaders.
