Lifetime Support, Inc. provides guardianship, advocacy and financial services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Description:
Lifetime Support, Inc. is a non-profit, non-sectarian 501(c)(3) created in direct response to requests from families, particularly elderly parents, of individuals with developmental disabilities. Affiliated with the Arc of Union County, Lifetime Support concerns itself with the guardianship and support of disabled persons who no longer have a family member who is capable or willing to act on his/her behalf. Lifetime Support serves several interrelated functions. It provides guardianship and financial services for individuals with developmental disabilities, manages burial trusts and family trusts and educates families of disabled persons about the legal and financial issues which must be addressed in planning for future care.
History:
Since its inception in 1998, Lifetime Support has experienced significant growth and has provided case management services to over 200 individuals and presented information to well over 700 individuals about services available through the corporation. Operating less than a full year, Lifetime Support served as guardian for 4 individuals with disabilities in 1999. Currently, Lifetime Support is guardian for 19 individuals. An Ethics Committee has also been created. Similar growth was experienced relative to the provision of financial services. In 1999, Lifetime Support provided financial services, including serving as the representative payee for government benefits, to 9 individuals. At the end of 2008, this number stood at 31 individuals. The corporation also currently manages 30 funeral trusts, 6 family trusts and an endowment.
