Agency Details:
The Beez Foundation, Inc
The Beez Foundation's mission is to fight brain cancer in kids. We do this three ways: educating the public that brain cancer is the number 2 cancer in kids; providing various patient services; funding brain cancer research.
Description:
The Beez Foundation raises funds predominantly in family oriented ways. We have been the featured event at a New Brunswick festival with a Rubber Duckie Race in the canal along the Raritan River. We have a presence at the Somerset Patriots Ball Games, where we sponsor the Beez Foundation Diamond Derby and let the kids come down on the field and run the bases after each Sunday game. We hold a Family Fun Fest and Softball Tournament at the Somerset Patriots Ball Park in October. There we offer lots of activities for kids and a softball tournament on the field. Another activity is our Kaps for Kids program where we decorate hats and donate them to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. We also do a toy drive and donate these to kids for both the holidays and to celebrate their end of cancer treatment.
History:
Organized in 2001, we have donated over $100,000 toward our mission. We have sent kids with brain cancer to Paul Newman's camp in New York state; provided over a year's worth of overnights at the Ronald McDonald House for kids with brain cancer and their families; bought software for the Cancer Institute's Resource Library to enable patients to do research on-line; helped a children's author pay for an illustrator for her book dealing with children coping with cancer. Recipients have been Ronald McDonald House, Double H Hole in the Woods Camp for Kids, Cancer Institute of New Jersey, University of Pittsburgh, Johns Hopkins University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Cornell University.
