To provide fire suppression/extinguishment, rescue/extrication and prevention/safety education to the communities of Far Hills and Bedminster NJ.

Description:
The Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department is an all volunteer organization that was founded in 1901. We cover both Far Hills and Bedminster, an area of 31.7 square miles that is mostly residential (both high-density and rural) with some commercial, as well of several highways (Rt. 287, 78, 202, 206).

We are responsible for fire extinguishment, rescue operations (extrication and others), fire prevention and safety education to schools and community groups. We also participate in or host many community events.

In 2004, we answered 510 calls. We provide 3 training opportunities each month in-house and send our members to outside classes free of charge.

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds with varying available time. But they all share a willingness to make sure that everyone in our area is safe.
Interested in helping out but do not want to fight fires? We are also looking for people to help out in administrative roles, such as: web site, fund raising, membership recruitment, special event staffing, legal, and others.

History:
The Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department began in December, 1900 when a group of concerned men gathered to discuss the formation of a fire company to protect the fast-growing community of Far Hills and adjacent area. A constitution and by-laws were established. The necessary funds were raised and the Union Hook & Ladder Company #1 of Far Hills was formed with twenty-two charter members. On July 23rd, 1901, the group was officially incorporated as a fire company of Somerset County and of the State of New Jersey. By December of their first year, the growing membership had accomplished most of their initial objectives.
