VMC mobilizes and maximizes people and resources to meet community needs and serves as the leader, catalyst and advocate for effective volunteerism.

Description:
Volunteer Management Centers, VMC, welcomes every member of the community to participate in service. VMC is your source for everything you need to become a great volunteer or mobilize your group to have a positive impact on our area.

We can connect you to the perfect opportunity. We work with over 500 not-for-profit organizations throughout the region, and we offer a wide range of services to individuals, agencies and businesses.

VMC offers two programs to assist those over age 60 or permanently disabled.

In-house programs for Seniors and Disabled include:

Telephone Reassurance Program - A daily phone call connects a lonely or isolated senior or a permanently disabled person with the outside world. It brings peace of mind to caregivers in knowing someone is checking on the recipient's safety and well-being.

· Each weekday volunteers make phone calls from calling sites throughout Morris County.

· Because every volunteer is screened and trained in emergency procedures, many potential tragedies have been averted.

· In addition to checking on the recipients, volunteers provide a "friendly ear" and can give information about available services.

Friendly Visitor Program - Screened volunteers are matched with isolated homebound elderly persons or people with permanent disabilities.

Volunteers, who are matched on the basis of location and time availability, commit to a minimum of one visit a week at a convenient time.

For the recipients: the visits provide companionship, reassurance, socialization and contact with the community.

For the volunteers: being a visitor provides satisfaction in knowing they are helping someone to alleviate their loneliness.

History:
2004 was a banner year for VMC! As a reflection of the dramatic increase in our services - to more agencies, a wider geographic area and multi-fold businesses, schools and service organizations - our Board voted to change the agency's name to Volunteer Management Center, keeping our well-recognized acronym, VMC.

Thanks to our continuing partnership with VolunteerMatch.org, our volunteer referral numbers hit an all-time high of nearly 27,000 (compared with 3,500 two years ago). When surveyed, 90% of volunteers expressed overall satisfaction with our internet service, and 25% indicated they had never volunteered prior to using it.

Thirty-four (34) corporations turned to VMC for group volunteer projects or assistance with their business volunteer programs, engaging 3,267 participants. In addition, the Board Leadership Institute was offered, in-house, to train management-level employees to serve as Board members.

Agencies were supported through: Board and hands-on volunteer referrals, Executive Directors Forums, workshops for directors of volunteers and facilitations in strategic planning. Fifty-two (52) agencies were visited, and sixty (60) registered their Board positions on our Internet site boardnetUSA.org.

Five college partnerships were established or further developed to increase civic engagement, and our Youth Action Council was launched to energize teen volunteerism, with sites at many high schools throughout Morris County. VMC applauds the 3,484 youths who acted on their desire to help others.

Volunteers made 42,675 phone calls and 2,130 visits to homebound elderly and disabled Morris County residents through VMC's Outreach Program.

Our executive director, Carol McKinney, was appointed by the Governor to serve on his Office on Volunteerism Advisory Council.

In 1973, the Junior League of Morristown, in collaboration with the United Way of Morris County, established two agencies--The Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of Morris County (RSVP). VMC and RSVP merged in 1995 to form Volunteers for Morris County (VMC). VMC continued to offer these established programs and others while improving our ability to better serve volunteers.

VMC underwent a management change in 2001 that brought about a change in strategic direction, a broader view of the future, and a renewed commitment to our mission and vision.

VMC is now representative of the top 10% of Volunteer Centers in the United States in terms of its size and budget. The 13 members of the Board of Trustees include civic-minded professional women and men who represent our service region. In addition to the Executive Director, VMC employs 9 full or part-time skilled and motivated professionals with broad experience in the not-for-profit sector - each responsible for a specific VMC program.
