Description:
The mission of the Area Agency on Aging in 1978 was to improve the quality of social and health services, develop, plan and administer service programs beneficial to seniors and raise funds necessary to provide the services. The wording of the mission has changed but the fundamental basics are still true and it is even more applicable today than ever before. Designated as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Planning and Service Area (PSA) 8 by the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs, the agency administers federal and state funded programs.
History:
Celebrating thirty years in Southwest Florida, the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida was formed in 1978 as a public not-for-profit entity operating under the auspices of the Older Americans Act of 1965.
