Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center
CHEC's mission is to provide environmental education, recreation, research and preservation land management for the citizens and visitors to the greater Charlotte Harbor area.
Description:
CHEC manages two nature centers - Alligator Creek Preserve in Punta Gorda and Cedar Point Environmental Park in Englewood. CHEC provides free programs for all ages. CHEC facilitates access to nature - hiking trails, visitor buildings, screen room for picnics.
History:
CHEC was founded in 1987 by the members of the Peace River Audubon Society. Corporate sponsors are Charlotte County, the Charlotte Public Schools, the city of Punta Gorda and Peace River Audubon Society.
