The Family Visitation Center is dedicated to ensuring positive, safe, and child focused Visitation and Connections between children and significant non-custodial adults in their lives.
Description:
The Family Visitation Center provides supervised visitation and assisted exchanges (Connections) for children ages birth to 18. The children served have lived in home environments where adult issues such as domestic violence, substance abuse, ongoing divorce/custody disputes, or child abuse have resulted in one or both caregivers needing to visit with the children in a supervised setting. The Family Visitation Center is a safe and secure facility where children can continue to build and/or maintain relationships with caregivers while the adult issues are resolved. The Center is open 7 days a week and has trained, professional staff dedicated to ensuring that the interactions remain positive. Children and families are referred to FVC from the Court System, Division of Child Protection, attorneys, counselors, other concerned parties.
History:
The Family Visitation Center opened in September 2000 as a joint venture between Avera McKennan Hospital, Children's Inn, and Volunteer's of America-Dakotas. Today the Center operates independently as the largest Visitation Center in the region. Over 1000 families have been impacted by the Center.
