The Outdoor Campus
The Outdoor Campus' mission is to provide education about outdoor skills, wildlife, conservation and management practices of South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks to all ages in order to preserve our outdoor heritage.
Description:
The Outdoor Campus was built to re-acquaint people with the outdoors. The facility is a $3.2 million project located on 100 acres of green-space within the city of Sioux Falls. The center is a source of wildlife, habitat and outdoor skills information and education for residents and visitors of South Dakota. Year-round classes and exhibits feature South Dakota's outdoors, wildlife, outdoor skills and conservation practices.
History:
The Outdoor Campus opened in 1997. Funding for the facility is provided by the sales of hunting and fishing licenses in South Dakota, and private donations and grant money. The proceeds from the sales of hunting and fishing licenses also go toward wildlife management in the state to keep South Dakota's wildlife abundant.
