Description:
The VA Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD is a 45 bed medical center and 59 bed Community Living Center, providing primary, acute and long-term services. The VA Regional Office is located on the grounds. The VA is one of two VA Medical Centers in the State of South Dakota. The medical center plays a major role in state and local medical activities and has sharing agreements with other medical facilities in the area. We also maintain close relationships with the major veterans service organizations in our three-state operating area.
History:
The Veterans Administration began operating the medical center in this location in 1944. The current Hospital building is named for Royal Cleaves Johnson, who represented South Dakota as a member of the House of Representatives for l8 years. He was instrumental in the forming of the Veterans Administration in l930.
