Description:
We provide services to people throughout South Dakota such as Helpline (24 hour/7 day telephone support and information about dementia at 1-800-272-3900). Memory loss groups providing safe, supportive, confidential information exchange, education, problem solving and selfcare tips. MedicAlert/Safe Return, a nationwide identification, support and registration program. Education, seminars, inservices and conferences throughout the region for persons with memory loss, caregivers, care providers and volunteers. Advocacy is working for action on Alzheimer's and memory loss issues in state capitols and Washington, DC. Research funding opportunities to improve diagnostic tools, identify prevention strategies, promote quality care and to find a cure.

History:
The South Dakota Office of the Alzheimer's Association is a state agency of the National Alzheimer's Association. It was founded in 1979 by a group of caregivers who recognized the need for support for families with Alzheimer's disease. We were part of one of the charter members of the national association which was formed one year later.
