ONE HOUR OF HAPPINESS FREE

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on February 4, 2009

As a DakotAbilities volunteer you will have many opportunities to be involved with our individuals. You may go to a baseball game, hockey game, football game, car races, bowling, concerts, movies, or a fishing trip at a "private" pond.
DakotAbilities will pay for all tickets required for functions.
You may enjoy just visiting with an individual at their home and spend some time doing a puzzle or reading a book.
Musicians are always a big hit and are welcomed to come to any of our individuals home and put on a mini-concert.
For those who are "power shoppers", we have individuals who would love to spend an hour at the mall with you.

All volunteers must complete an application form,which includes personal references and a criminal background check. An orientation and training program is provided as appropriate to all volunteers prior to the volunteers being involved with individuals served. The orientation and training may include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  1. a review of the agency's policy and procedure manual;
  2. a tour of the agency facilities;
  3. in-services on developmental disabilities,cerebral palsy,epilepsy,behavior intervention,communication or special diets;
  4. an overview of the agency's structure,goals,services,philosophy and purpose;
  5. other training as appropriate.
  6. a review of HIPAA regulations that apply to agency individuals.
All training and orientation will be documented and placed in the volunteer's file.
