AARP Tax-Aide
We provide free income tax return preparation to middle- and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older. We also provide help in the preparation of state tax returns.
Description:
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest free tax preparation service. It is a volunteer run program whose goal is to enable a nationwide, volunteer-run program. In NH, over 200 volunteers helped nearly 20,000 taxpayers with their tax returns in 2008. Volunteer instructors provide tax training to volunteer tax counselors who provide all service-level tax counseling. Volunteer coordinators and specialists help set policy and administer the program at local, district, and state levels.
History:
Nationwide, volunteers provided tax preparation help to nearly 4 million taxpayers in 2008. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have been helping NH taxpayers for over 20 years. In 2008 over 90% of the tax returns we prepared were prepared and filed electronically using computers. This assures greater accuracy and faster refunds for our clients. Not all of our volunteers prepare tax returns. Many volunteers do support, administrative, or computer related tasks to increase our efficiency.
