New Hampshire Audubon
The mission of New Hampshire Audubon is to protect New Hampshire's natural environment for wildlife and for people through education, observation and action.
Description:
New Hampshire Audubon (NHA) is an independent statewide membership organization whose mission is to protect New Hampshire’s natural environment for wildlife and for people. It is not affiliated with the National Audubon Society. Founded in 1914, NHA's original goal was to protect and restore migratory bird populations decimated by hunting and collection. Since that time, we have expanded our focus and work to include statewide conservation research and wildlife monitoring, the protection of thousands of acres of wildlife habitat, and advocacy for sound public policy on conservation issues. We also strive to involve people in the protection and enjoyment of New Hampshire’s unique natural resources. Audubon volunteers participate in many activities to support our mission from observation of habitats to classroom education to leading nature hikes. Volunteers work in our office, at our many preserves and visitor centers, with animals and with people. We have something for everyone!
History:
NHA has a long history of involving members and volunteers in wildlife protection projects. In the early part of this century, citizen involvement helped to document the decline of birds from hunting and collecting. Today, NHA volunteers help to identify and monitor migratory bird habitat, maintain wildlife sanctuaries, educate children, publish statewide bird data, and monitor raptor breeding sites around the state. Each year, NHA works with hundreds of volunteers who contribute thousands of hours in support of the organizations projects and activities. We have volunteer projects to suit many areas of interest and levels of ability. Please join us today!
