Baby Threads Of NH
Logo

Baby Threads, through the work of volunteers, and in cooperation with other agencies, builds social connections at the grass roots level to relieve the effects of poverty for infants, children, and adults in New Hampshire.

Description:
Baby Threads is staffed 100% by volunteers and stocked 100% by donations. Baby Threads is a registered 501 c 3 non profit organization. Baby Threads is an affiliate member of the United Way. To help fund our many projects, and to provide a place where anyone can afford to shop, we run two thrift shops. Out of Your Attic Thrift Shop is located in Chichester, NH. Out of Your Attic Thrift Shop Too is located in Laconia, NH. The thrift shops are also staffed by volunteers and stocked by donations.
Baby Threads works through hospitals and pregnancy centers to distribute the layette bags. Baby Threads works through other groups and agencies such as homeless shelters, Community Action Programs, school nurses, etc. to provide for the needy and homeless.

History:
Meet "Baby Threads"

Several years ago, a few people who like to make quilts met together to answer the call to make warm quilts for the people of Kosovo. Shipping was difficult and after a few shipments we began to look for ways we could serve here at home.

After asking prenatal clinics if they could use our hand made quilts we found that many of the new moms didn't have clothes to bring the babies home from the hospital with. We decided that we wanted to help. "Every baby deserves a quilt."

Our special interest was making baby quilts. As we cut and sewed there always seemed to be threads on our clothes. The name "Baby Threads" stuck as we began to gather clothes for new born babies as well as make quilts.

We now make tote bags filled with new, or gently used clothing and tuck in a quilt or afghan on the top of the bag. These bags are distributed in N.H. at pre-natal clinics and hospital birthing centers for those who have a need. During 2004 over 500 layette bags were given out.

Through the years our projects to help those in need have expanded to include such things as hygiene kits, quilts for children who are homeless or in shelters, comfort quilts, backpacks with supplies for back to school, seasonal gifts, clothing donations for a free clothes closet, free clothing give aways, food basket drive, items for the troops, hats and mittens for school children, and items for seniors in nursing homes.

The quilt shop, now located in the back of Out Of Your Thrift Shop Too in Laconia, is always packed with items coming in and going out. The dream to see that every baby has a quilt started small but grows more every year.
