Our mission is to enrich the lives of Central New Jersey residents by promoting effective volunteerism and service.

VolunteerConnect maintains a free, online service that provides current information about volunteer work available in Central New Jersey. Designed to help bring together potential volunteers and the nonprofit organizations that need them, the VolunteerConnect web site maintains and continually updates a list of hundreds of area nonprofits and their volunteer opportunities.  VolunteerConnect also provides training, professional development and support to nonprofits to help them effectively recruit, utilize, retain and recognize volunteers.
 

VolunteerConnect is governed by a Board of Trustees that develops the vision and the policies for the organization.  Our professional staff manage our day-to-day operations and support the community relationships that help match volunteers with organizations and community groups.

We appreciate the generosity of our supporters: the Princeton Area Community Foundation, the United Way, and the J. Seward Johnson 1963 Charitable Trust, as well as our corporate and foundation partners and private contributors.

VolunteerConnect was founded by a group of community volunteers in 1998 as Hands On Helpers.  We began simply as a clearinghouse: a free, online service that provided information about volunteer opportunities with local nonprofit organizations.  Over the years, the Hands On Helpers web site brought together thousands of volunteers and nonprofits.  After a while, though, it was clear that more was needed.  We began to provide training and professional development in volunteer management to the organizations' leaders and staff, offering workshops and other resources to help them effectively recruit, utilize, retain, and recognize volunteers.  We added programs to help corporations have more effective employee volunteer programs.  And we added workshops and orientations for volunteers.
