The Future of Volunteerism in Central New Jersey

On Monday, October 26th, over 65 nonprofit and community leaders filled the room at Rider University to discuss the Future of Volunteerism in Central New Jersey.  The public town hall conversation was convened by VolunteerConnect to mark the launch of its new name and redesigned web site.  The featured panelists, Nancy W. Kieling, President and Executive Director, Princeton Area Community Foundation, Craig E. Lafferty, President/CEO, United Way of Greater Mercer County, and Wayne Meisel, President, The Bonner Foundation, brought insight into the importance of volunteerism and service in our communities, and how the public, nonprofits and companies can band together to raise the level of volunteerism in the Greater Mercer County area.

The objectives of the Town Hall were to foster greater dialogue on the meaning and value of effective volunteerism and to gain support and commitment from the community to help raise volunteerism rates in greater Mercer County.  After the panelists' remarks, the participants engaged in conversation with them and with other attendees to discuss the key challenges to and benefits from raising our level of civic engagement and volunteerism.
