A2Z mentoring program promotes 7 “C”s – Compassion, Caring, Commitment, Consistent, Challenge, Communication and Confidence to mentors, supervisors, mentees and their families.
Aim for A 2 Z is a free mentoring/tutoring 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, operating in Mercer County for the past four years. The program is supported by a group of caring, professional and competent volunteers. A2Z mentoring program commenced mentoring and tutoring elementary and middle school students scholastically, during the Fall of 2004 in the East Windsor/Hightstown and Ewing areas. It has been recognized and appreciated by all School Districts, Mayors and Governor of NJ.
A2Z’s mission is to raise literacy levels and subject skills of needy students from low income, single family, immigrant, refugee families with a history of welfare dependence. minority and disadvantaged families by providing free mentoring and tutoring. Our program enables the pursuit of higher education and improves quality of life. Our program not only helps disadvantaged and needy elementary and middle schools children, but also enables high school students to develop community spirit and a giving mind-set, gain leadership experience and provides an opportunity to work with a diverse group of students.
The program is operating in the Hightstown and East Windsor areas from 6:30 pm. to 8:00 pm 7 days per week. It also operates at the Ewing library on every Tuesday from 6.30 pm. to 8:00 pm. for the Elementary School students in the Ewing area.
This year June 8, 2008 A2Z Mentoring Program will celebrate Annual Certificate Awarding Ceremony event to recognize their 85 volunteers dedicated their time and efforts to help 75 community students from grade 1 through 8.
The summer 2008 session will start from July 15th through August 20th, 2008.
The fall 2008 session will start from September 16th through December 20th, 2008.

Description:
A2Z’s mentors accept the challenges and rewards of mentoring a child for a period of one school year (fall, summer and spring) and experience the benefits that will last each of them a lifetime. The mentors are often surprised to see that they are learning more about themselves too. A2Z’s mentors devote their time and make efforts to enrich and improve Math, English, Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening skills of students who participate in our program. A2Z mentors help students with homework to improve academic skills. Our mentor meet students once a week, be consistent and maintain regular contact help student less likely to skip a class. Our caring and confidence mentors help keep students in school. Since our program goal is to support with day-to-day living, our mentors help improve a young person's self-esteem and provide support for students trying new challenges. We offer young students the chance to develop a relationship with one or more mentors and adults, other than parents and teachers, who become friends, role models and advocates for them. We work to build confidence and motivation to tackle long-term goals. We also help students to be open, get the voice out, speak and choice in deciding on activities. Our students feel more invested in the relationship if they can exercise some control. Our mentors are trained to listen because we believe that just listening is a critical form of emotional support. We respect their trust to our program and volunteers and maintain confidentiality. A2Z is a quality mentoring program take responsibility for making and maintaining contacts with the community, parents, students, volunteers, teachers. With parents' our mentors like to expose students to a wide range of new activities, math games, spelling games that are both fun and educational. We use a variety of techniques and skills to achieve their goals. We believe spending maximum time with mentors, students and parents is a great fun and enjoyment for all. Our Surveys showed that our students are benefiting with A2Z in their academic skill and many of them receive A and B in their tests, have improved reading, writing and spelling skills. Parents have evaluated A2Z Mentoring Program is a good program and helping their children.
