Lupus Foundation Of America, New Jersey Chapter, Inc.

The Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter, Inc. mission is to educate and support those affected by lupus and find the cure!

Description:
The Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with lupus through support groups, educational programs, information and referral services and awareness campaigns. The Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter annually provides grants to medical researchers who demonstrate a commitment to find a cure for this devastating disease.

History:
The Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter, Inc. (LFANJCI) was founded in 1975 by five young women from New Jersey who were all affected by lupus. For the first 10 years, the foundation was run exclusively by volunteers. In 1977, the New Jersey Chapter was instrumental in founding the national organization, The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA). The purpose of the LFA is to provide a national presence and awareness of lupus.
In the 1980's the foundation used pen pals and telephone buddies. By the 1990's we had a teen support group and had started our annual WALK FOR LUPUS NOW events.
Today, the LFANJCI provides services to more that 3,000 individuals a year by mail, telephone, fax and email. Our website at www.lupusnj.org helps us keep our members in the loop and up to date on the foundations various services and events.
A Board of Directors elected by the membership governs the Foundation. They are dedicated to upholding our commitment of responding to the needs of, and providing support services to all individuals affected by lupus. Today, we remain affiliated and are one of the largest chapters in the national organization.
