Community FoodBank of New Jersey

To fight hunger and poverty by the distribution of food and grocery products, by educating and training, by creating model programs, by involving all sectors of society in this battle.

Description:
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey, a member of America's Second Harvest, the National Food Bank Network, links a great supply of food with a great need. By soliciting the food industry for products they will not sell, the FoodBank helps the hungry, reduces food waste and brings people together. The FoodBank is also a member of New Jersey Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NJVOAD) and works with FEMA, The Salvation Army and other relief organizations to provide emergency assistance to victims of natural and man-made disasters.

History:
Since 1982, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey has distributed over 150 million pounds of food and other groceries to private, nonprofit groups where hungry people turn for help - food pantries, shelters for the homeless, soup kitchens, child care centers, battered women's shelters, senior programs. We serve over 1500 organizations in 18 New Jersey counties - from our Hillside headquarters and our Southern Branch in Egg Harbor Township. FoodBank supplies are also distributed in central New Jersey by three associated food banks - The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties in Neptune, NORWESCAP Food Bank in Phillipsburg, and Mercer Street Friends Food Cooperative in Trenton. We pick up large-scale donations from over 250 corporations in NJ and across the country - food may be dry, refrigerated or frozen. Our Kids Division consists of three programs: Our Kids Cafés provides hot dinners five days a week to approximately 400 low-income children in after school programs. Our Kids Closet program distributes new donated clothing free to children in need, and our Kids in Need Resource Center distributes free school supplies in underserved communities.
