Bag Lunch Program

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 10, 2009

Bag Meals- As you will probably notice, this program is an offshoot of the soup kitchen. With this project, we attempt to serve those who cannot make our regular meals due to work, school, job training, disability, or some other valid reason. We also offer meals to children who need them for school or after school programs. Guest must enroll for this program, show some kind of verifying paperwork, and re-certify periodically- so we can make sure that the meals we prepare go to their intended targets. You may be asked to help with this program from time to time- enrolling clients, as well as preparing and/or distributing meals.

There are four different ways to help get involved with this program:

First, you can buy the supplies needed and donate them to us. The supplies are brown paper bags, bread, lunch meat, peanut butter, a healthy drink, like water and two healthy snack, for example an apple and carrot sticks.

Second, you can make the bag lunches at home with friends, family, school groups, or any other groups you belong to. What you would have to do is buy the supplies and then put the bag lunches together. After you put the sandwich, a healthy drink, and two healthy snacks in the brown paper bag please label the name of the sandwich on the outside. Also, if you are making 100 or more please call for a drop off date; otherwise less than 100 you can drop off at our donation hours, which are Monday - Friday 8:30-10am or 1-3pm, Saturday 10-2;30, and Sunday 11-2;30.

Third, if you did not want to put together the whole bag lunch you can just make the sandwiches. If you are making 100 or more please call for a drop off date; otherwise less than 100 you can drop off at our donation hours, which are Monday - Friday 8:30-10am or 1-3pm, Saturday 10-2;30, and Sunday 11-2;30.

Finally, we can set up a time for a small group or individuals to come in and help make bag lunches on a Saturday morning from 9am-11am or 11am to 1pm. This is a great way to get under children involved with the community.

Please wear comfortable clothing; for example jeans, t-shirt, closed shoes, and bring a hat if you do not want to wear a hair net. We provide hairnets, gloves, and aprons.

This opportunity is for children and families ages 7 and up.
