Volunteer Opportunity Details:

United Way of Morris County’s Youth Empowerment Alliance (YEA) is kicking-off its four-tiered mentoring project this fall and we’re looking for volunteer mentors interested in working with local middle school students.
In collaboration with Morristown Neighborhood House, Frelinghuysen Middle School, and Empowerment Solutions, YEA hopes to increase social connections between students and
positive role models.

Why mentor?
Mentoring changes lives. Mentees build confidence, develop stronger interpersonal skills, set goals, and achieve higher standards. The four-tiered mentoring project will provide middle school students with an opportunity to develop positive relationships with high school students, college students, professionals, and senior citizens.
How it works
Twenty students in Morristown Neighborhood House’s Smart Talented Athletic Responsible Students (STARS) afterschool program will meet with mentors of all ages and backgrounds two
evenings a week during the 2009 – 2010 school year.

There are two opportunities to get involved:
Once a month
Students meet with mentors– from throughout the community to work on activities or volunteer projects.

• All mentors will be screened through Morristown Neighborhood House by:
• Submitting a written application
• Undergoing a fingerprint criminal background check and child abuse registry check
• Providing character references
• Participating in a face-to-face interview
• Completing a 12 hour pre-match mentor training conducted by Empowerment Solutions
